PLATELET RICH PLASMA- PRP THERAPY
HAIR LOSS TREATMENT

Platelet Rich Plasma-PRP Therapy, performed at Buckhead Hair restoration in Atlanta, is created by spinning the patient’s own blood in a centrifuge, separating the plasma from the rest of the blood. This process allows us to distill a highly concentrated solution of platelets suspended in a small volume of plasma. These platelets secrete fundamental growth factors that initiate wound healing which enhances collagen production. The plasma itself contains three separate proteins that act as a matrix for bone, connective tissue, and epithelial regrowth. The concentrate of Platelet Rich Plasma, when re-injected into the body, stimulates the healing process while simultaneously accelerating the speed and degree of regeneration in the damaged tissue. Platelet Rich Plasma is also used in conjunction with NeoGraft Hair Restoration and helps with the healing process of the grafts. Dr. Slater injects the scalp a few weeks prior to NeoGraft Hair Restoration and 6 month after Neograft Hair Restoration.

Patients suffering from hair loss often exhibit a characteristic shrinking of the hair follicles. Over time, as the follicles shrink, they produce hair that is thinner and thinner, until they reach a point where they stop producing hair at all. Injecting Platelet Rich Plasma into the scalp can cause the shrinking hair follicles to become healthier and larger, producing thicker and fuller hair growth. Moreover, we have found that platelet rich plasma accelerates the transition of the hair follicle from the dormant state back to the actively growing state, reducing the necessary recovery time after hair restoration surgery. At Buckhead Hair Restoration we have been using PRP in conjunction with our Hair transplant procedures with consistently excellent results.
For the last few years Platelet Rich Plasma has proven effective as a stand-alone treatment for men and women with specific types of hair loss, particularly male and female pattern hair loss and some forms of traction alopecia.(Ask Dr. Slater about Traction Alopecia). In some cases, PRP has even helped to regrow hair in areas afflicted with with different types of alopecia that affect the scalp, eyebrows and even beards. Dr.Slater generally recommends multiple treatments within  a certain period of time.  Howm many treatments depends on each patient’s needs and diagnosis. Dr. Slater injects Platelet Rich Plasma  in the area of concern and also offers micro-needling of the scalp to enhance the process. Each treatment generally takes about an hour to perform and patients can return to work the next day. When Micro-Needling is included in the treatment plan, numbing cream is applied to the scalp, which can cause a sticky residue until the hair can be shampooed the next day.
